Adobe Photoshop is now being used in almost every kind of design work. Especially, commercial website templates are first designed in Adobe Photoshop and then converted to HTML. So if you are a Photoshop designer and you have internet access as well then you can find tons of work online. It is like you are standing in front of money, all you need is some patience and then you can grab as much money as you want.
I am a freelancer Photoshop designer and I am going to share the secrets of my success as a Photoshop designer. If you follow a similar approach then I am sure you will also be able to earn a respectable income.
Here are the steps that you need to follow:
No matter how experienced you are, you still need to continuously improve your skills. Every new version of Adobe Photoshop introduces new features and tools so you need to invest time to learn them. YouTube is a great resource to find online courses and tutorials to polish your Photoshop skills.
It is probably a good idea to join Adobe Photoshop related social media channels on Facebook, YouTube and Reddit to stay informed about the latest happenings related to Photoshop.
Then comes the practicing part, make sure you practice everything you learn otherwise you will forget it.
Develop a professional website to showcase your portfolio. Your website will represent you online and whenever you contact a potential client, the first thing your client will see after chatting with you will be your website. Therefore, keep it visually appealing and user-friendly.
Select the best of your Photoshop work and present it on your website in a visually appealing and organized manner. Use high-quality images, provide clear descriptions, and include any relevant facts and figures. It is not a one time job, You will need to continuously update your portfolio with your latest and most impactful work. Regularly refreshing your portfolio shows potential clients that you are actively engaged in Photoshop work.
Your website should also be SEO friendly. Try to target the keywords that are related to “Adobe Photoshop designing” to get more search engine traffic from Google, Bing and other search engines.
I am not going to lie here, finding your first online client can be a bit challenging for you. When I started to work as a freelance designer in 2003, the competition was very low and I easily found many clients but now things have changed a lot. COVID has made the matters even worse by increasing the trend of remote jobs. You have a lot of designers to compete with, therefore you will need a lot of patience but eventually you will get a lot of clients for sure.
First of all, create accounts on all the popular freelance platforms. I highly recommend you to start with Fiverr, Upwork, Peopleperhour and Freelancer. Create an impressive profile on each of these websites and then start bidding on Adobe Photoshop related projects.
Remember, bidding requires patience, dont panic if you dont get a project in first few attempts. Instead, try to critically analyze your bids and fix the mistakes in future bids.
Keep a record of all your bidding activity and mark those bids and proposals that triggered a client response. Even if you dont win the project, if a bid or proposal triggers a client response then it is considered to be good and you should use it as an inspiration for your future bids.
This refinement process will quickly start to win you some projects and once you hit 10+ good feedbacks, you can consider yourself on the track to success.
You should also create a business page Facebook and post your recent Photoshop projects to attract clients from Facebook. Similarly, Linkedin is a business platform that lets you create your professional profile which can be used to get design work. You can also use YouTube for this purpose.
Online forums are also a potential source to get clients but you will need to actively participate in forum discussions to win the trust of forum members. This way, they can contact you for any Photoshop related work.
A satisfied client is likely to recommend your services to other people therefore try your best to satisfy your clients. Also if a client is fully satisfied with your work, he is more likely to select you for all his future design projects.
Once you get your first Photoshop project, you should now focus to satisfy your client to get a good (5 Stars) review. This good review will make your future bidding much more effective.
On the other hand, if you happen to get a bad review from your client, your future bidding will be much more difficult. Even if you have a 100 positive reviews, always try to avoid a bad review at all costs, because it is like a stain on a white shirt.
Working online requires discipline and efficient time management. Sometimes, your clients live outside your time zone so you have to deal with this by allocating your time accordingly. Remember! It is very unlikely that a client will stay awake to communicate with you, it’s you, who will need to sacrifice sleep.
Create a schedule that suits both, your clients and your lifestyle.
Project management tools such as Trello, Asana, or Clockify can greatly help you in time management and also help you in tracking the progress of your Photoshop projects.
Once you have successfully completed more than 10 Photoshop projects with good reviews, You will be in a better position to negotiate with your clients for the bid amount. You will be considered an entry-level Photoshop designer at this point and your bids will be taken a bit more seriously from now on, but still, you have a long way ahead. You will still need to bid lower than most of the bidders until you achieve 100+ positive reviews or more.
